Love
When love is absent, other emotions arise. People long for love, but when they don't receive it, it can turn into something else. Jealousy, envy, and hate all stem from a lack of love. When we care deeply for someone or seek their approval, unreciprocated feelings can become jealousy or envy toward those receiving the attention we desire. Hatred emerges when we are hurt by those we care about the most. Strangers can't hurt us in the same way—only those close to us can. Thus, we must be mindful of the company we keep, as we are influenced by those around us. Negative influences can make us more negative, while friends who gossip can turn us into gossipers. The saying, "If you want to know someone's character, look at the friends they keep," holds true. Surround yourself with people who inspire you to improve, so you can take pride in who you become in the future.
We already face enough negativity in our daily lives from work and other encounters; we don't need more from the people we choose to surround ourselves with. Choose friends who uplift you and stay by your side through thick and thin. Surround yourself with people who make you mentally strong, enabling you to face the world's challenges. Help and support others as you have been helped and supported. Spread positivity—we need more of it in the world.
